Edison Scott McKenzie was found guilty this week of a BUI that he caused last March that lead to injuries as well as property damages. McKenzie, a Freeport man, was found guilty of boating under the influence when he crashed his boat in Niceville. He was 49 at the time of the accident when he was operating his 23-foot boat. He struck a dock because he had been drinking.
The accident caused tens of thousands of dollars in damages. It also caused his injuries as well as a woman who was also on the boat at the time.
A neighbor was the first one to notice the crash when he heard it. He ran over and noticed the boat, which was stopped at the dock. The neighbor jumped aboard the boat and backed it up so that he could help McKenzie and the woman off.
