Today, a fatal crash closed a portion of Highway 60 near Mulberry due to its severity. The accident was identified as a vehicle and truck accident.
The accident took place in Polk County and involved a rock hauling truck. At this time, police have confirmed that there was a fatality and multiple injuries. It was so severe that it temporarily shut down eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 60 during the busy Friday morning commute.
The crash took place at 4800 Highway 60 East, just west of Bonnie Mine Road near Mulberry. Within a few hours, all lanes of Highway 60 were reopened.
The accident happened when a Kenworth Rock Hauling truck driven by 43-year-old Jose Ramos of Riverview was traveling eastbound with a Chevrolet Malibu, which was driven by 25-year-old James Everitt and a 34-year-old passenger named Kelly Kersey.
Findings showed that the truck ran into the side of the Malibu vehicle, which caused it to turn sideways. The truck then struck the vehicle on the driver’s side.
Everitt died at the scene of the accident, while Kersey was taken to the hospital for leg and internal injuries. She is now in critical condition.
Ramos only had minor injuries. Civil citations might be filed.
