Yesterday afternoon, one man died and two others sustained injuries in an Alachua County collision. The accident took place on southbound Interstate 75.
The incident occurred when 37-year-old Antonio Carvalho De Sousa was driving his Pathfinder around 12:35 p.m. with two passengers, 56-year-old Paolo De Tarso-Palma and 8-year-old Anna Sousa De Palma.
In another vehicle, a Lexus was driven by 64-year-old Ronnie Yung with his passengers, 57-year-old Catherine Yung and 32-year-old Brandon Yung. Both vehicles were driving southbound on the highway at the time.
Both the Pathfinder and Lexus attempted to avoid another vehicle that was traveling in the same direction. This caused the Pathfinder to overturn and the Lexus to collide into a guardrail.
Antonio died at the scene of the crash due to the severity of injuries. The passengers inside the Pathfinder at the time were able to walk away with minor injuries and taken to be treated at a local hospital.
None of the people in the Lexus sustained injuries. The crash is still being investigated at this time.
