Alachua County, FL (July 10, 2018) – Two people were left in critical condition following an accident that took place on Tuesday morning. The incident happened on State Road 24 near Southwest 138th Street.
The Florida Highway Patrol was called to the scene of the accident. They determined that a Chevrolet Astro was traveling eastbound on Archer Road and a Chevrolet Impala was headed in the other direction. Suddenly, the Astro went over the line to pass another vehicle ahead of them as the Impala continued onward.
The driver of the Astro was not able to get over on the right side of the roadway in time before the Impala headed toward it, causing the two vehicles to collide. The Astro came to a final rest on its right side in the shoulder of the highway. The Impala, on the other hand, came to a rest in the eastbound lane facing another direction.
Both drivers were pronounced in critical condition at the Shands Hospital. There were no passengers in any of the vehicles.
Over 250,000 people were injured on Florida roads in 2017 alone. There are many leading causes of traffic accidents, including distracted driving, driving under the influence, excessive speed, and drowsy driving.
