Boynton Beach, FL (June 21, 2018) – In Boynton Beach last night, a man was struck and killed by a Brightline train. This was deemed the sixth death involving the express rail service in Palm Beach County since January of this year.
Police responded to the incident and said that the northbound train struck an unidentified man around 6:30 p.m. on the train tracks between East Gateway Boulevard and Miner Road. Police started investigating the scene and attempting to identify the man around 8:30 p.m. They were able to and are still in the process of notifying his family, according to a spokeswoman.
This particular stretch of the railroad has been the scene for many deaths in the area. In fact, on June 1, a Lakeland man named Christopher Bailey was struck and killed by a southbound train. Just last week, a man was brushed by a Brightline train when he didn’t move away from the tracks while the train was in motion. The man was taken to a trauma center with injuries.
There are constant warnings that these trains reach high speeds of 79 mph at times and that they are running nonstop, so people must always be mindful to watch out for them. Many safety upgrades are taking place at this time.
