Boynton Beach, FL (December 26, 2018) - Two people are dead, and another is in critical condition after a serious crash on Interstate 95 in Boynton Beach. The crash took place around 3:00 pm on Christmas Day according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers say that 45-year-old Jeronimo Higinio was traveling in the northbound lanes of the highway when he lost control of his Ford Explorer, causing it to rollover several times before coming to a rest. Two passengers in Higinio's vehicle died at the scene of the crash. Higinio was rushed to Delray Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and is currently listed in critical condition.
The road was closed until just after 6:00 pm and the crash scene was not entirely clear until nearly 8:00 pm. The deceased passengers have not been identified, and there is no information on what caused the rollover to occur. No additional information is available as troopers continue their investigation.
Each day, approximately eight fatal crashes are reported in Florida. Many serious and fatal crashes involve single vehicles. Single vehicle crashes take place for a variety of reasons but are normally caused by some sort of driver error such as speeding or distraction. Although a crash may involve just one vehicle, it often affects more than one person. Passengers inside the vehicle who are hurt by a driver's negligence may have an injury or wrongful death claim against the driver. In these types of cases, the innocent passengers could have a right to recovery.
