Police say that Gloria Slowiak was in a golf car at her mailbox when a Volkswagen Jetta lost control and struck her before colliding with a tree. The driver of the Jetta then fled the scene on foot before police could arrive. Slowiak was hurt and taken to the hospital with multiple injuries. She later underwent surgery. There is no current update on her condition following the crash.
The suspect is still at large. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol.
Car accidents can take place anywhere and at any time. Anyone who finds themselves on or near a roadway in Florida can become the victim of a negligent driver as all it takes is one single act of careless driving to cause serious injuries or even death. This year, there will be about 250,000 injury accidents reported in our state and many of them will be caused due to the negligent actions of at least one person.
Our thoughts are with Gloria Slowiak as she recovers from her injuries.
