Bradenton, FL (October 31, 2018) - A 21-year-old man has been arrested and charged with DUI-related crimes in a crash that killed a 30-year-old man on Monday, October 29th.
Police say that, around 11:10 am, Dustin Horne was traveling westbound on State Road 64. Horne was operating a 2003 Chevrolet S-10. At the same time, Brandon Blalock was traveling east in a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer. Blalock lost control of his vehicle and collided with the left front of Horne's truck. The impact of the crash caused Horne to be ejected from the truck, which then flipped over and landed on top of him. Horne was pronounced dead.
Investigators charged Blalock with DUI, DUI manslaughter, possession of a controlled substance and failing to drive within a single lane.
In 2016, there were over 5,000 confirmed DUI-related fatal crashes. In addition, there were many more DUI crashes that were not fatal but involved injuries to one or more people. Whether it is related to drugs or whether it is related to alcohol, DUI crashes and DUI drivers continue to plague the streets and highways of Florida. Our thoughts are with the family of Dustin Horne as they go through this tragic experience.
A DUI crash unfortunately often has serious consequences. An impaired driver has a slowed reaction time and therefore many crashes with impaired drivers occur at high speeds, causing devastating damage and injuries. A DUI crash has the potential to change the life of an innocent victim forever.
