There are over 400,000 crashes reported in Florida each year. About 20-25% of these car accidents will be hit-and-crashes. In a hit-and-run, a driver who flees the scene will face criminal charges once they are apprehended. In the case of death or bodily injury, the driver may face serious felony charges that can result in jail time and court fines.
A hit-and-run driver is also civilly responsible for their actions. If the driver was negligent in causing a collision, the innocent victim has the right to bring a personal injury claim for recovery of compensation, including pain and suffering, lost wages and medical bills for care incurred due to the crash.
