Brandon, FL (July 17, 2019) - Two people were killed in a crash at the intersection of Brandon Parkway and Town Center Boulevard on Tuesday, July 16th. The crash took place around 5:00 a.m.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 26-year-old Michael Iacob was driving a Chevy Silverado pickup northbound on Town Center while a Nissan SUV was traveling eastbound on Brandon Parkway. The vehicles collided with one another when they approached the intersection, causing the Nissan to erupt in flames. The driver of the Nissan later died at the hospital, while a passenger in that car was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have yet to determine which driver was at fault at the intersection, which was controlled by a traffic light. The victims have not been identified at this time. An investigation into the crash is active.
We wish to extend our most sincere condolences to the families of the two victims who died in this tragic crash in Brandon.
Many serious and fatal car accidents take place at intersections. Whether there is a stop sign or stop light, drivers must always yield to other vehicles. The failure to properly yield can result in serious T-bone and head-on collisions that have catastrophic results. Police will continue to work to determine how this crash took place and, ultimately, which driver is responsible.
