Bryceville, FL (April 6, 2019) - Two men are dead following a head-on collision between a car and a pickup truck on County Road 121 and Horshoe Circle Saturday, April 6th. The crash took place around 3:00 a.m.
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol say that 53-year-old Roger Carlton was driving a 1997 Ford F-150 pickup southbound on CR 121. At the same time, 31-year-old Matthew Potter was driving a 2004 Dodge Neon northbound on the opposite side of the road. For unknown reasons, Potter failed to maintain his lane and veered into the opposite side of the roadway. The Neon and F-150 collided head-on, causing the truck to flip onto its roof and come to rest. The Neon left the roadway and ended up in a ditch.
Both Carlton and Potter died at the crash scene. Police are still investigating the cause of the crash and toxicology tests are pending at this time.
A fatal accident will be reported every three hours on average in Florida. Head-on crashes are a major cause of many serious and fatal crashes. A head-on collision typically happens at high speed and gives the other driver little time to avoid the accident, thus causing more damage and, unfortunately, more frequent loss of life.
