Last night, an emergency call was made in Largo. When officers responded to the scene, a crash occurred.
The incident happened when Largo Officer Thomas Dziamba was called to the scene of a domestic dispute in Largo and the crash occurred. Dziamba had his sirens and lights on at the time. He was headed east on East Bay Drive when, suddenly, a Jeep Wrangler pulled into the path of the police cruiser headed in the other direction.
The driver of the Jeep, 36-year-old Christopher Griffin, was not wearing a seatbelt. He was ejected and died at the scene of the accident.
The officer, however, was seriously injured and had to be taken to a local hospital for treatment. He is now at home recovering and is expected to be okay. The K9 was not hurt in the crash.
The investigation continues. They believe that alcohol might have been a factor.
