Yesterday, a Lutz woman lost her life when her vehicle was struck by a van on U.S. 41 around 10:00 a.m. Connie Raye Sands, a 54-year-old from Luta, was driving her 2003 Pontiac at the time of the accident when she made a left turn onto U.S. 41.
At this time, 51-year-old Guillermo Fernandez was driving his 2017 Dodge in the center lane approaching the same area. Troopers say that Sands turned in front of the van when she was trying to make a left turn, and she was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa. She died from her injuries.
Fernandez suffered minor injuries and received treatment.
