Daytona Beach, FL (July 8, 2018) – A wheelchair-bound man was run over in a serious car accident that took place near Daytona Beach. As a result, North Atlantic Avenue was shut down in both directions as police investigated the scene.
The Daytona Beach Police Department was called to the scene of the accident around 9 p.m. on the 700 block of North Atlantic. Police said that the wheelchair-bound man was not in the crosswalk but he was in the middle of the roadway when the vehicle came driving through.
One witness said that the man was wiped away and took a very hard hit. The driver of the SUV who hit the man in the wheelchair did not stop to stay at the scene. However, there was no indication that the driver who caused the accident was driving under the influence at the time.
The wheelchair-bound man suffered a serious head injury and was taken to the intensive care unit at the Halifax Health Medical Center. Police are now looking for more information on the driver who was involved in the accident.
