Deland, FL (May 9, 2020) - A 75-year-old motorcyclist died in a crash that took place in Deland on Saturday, May 9th. The crash happened on Dover Lane near North Woodland Boulevard.
According to a report, an unidentified 73-year-old male was driving a sedan on Dover when he attempted to make a turn onto Woodland Boulevard. As he made the turn, the man collided with another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. The second vehicle then swerved across a median and into oncoming traffic before striking the motorcycle head-on. The motorcyclist, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries. The two drivers sustained minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. There is no additional information available at this time.
Last year, about 3,000 people died due to fatal accidents in Florida. Each day, about eight deadly accidents are reported on our roadways. Unfortunately, Florida motorcycle accidents frequently lead to death or serious injuries for riders. A motorcycle simply does not offer the same protection as a traditional vehicle, leaving riders exposed to the danger of a high-impact collision.
We extend our condolences to the victim's family following this motorcycle crash in Deland.
