Delray Beach, FL (October 22, 2018) - A 38-year-old man from Boca Raton is dead following a motorcycle crash in Delray Beach on Thursday, October 18th.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office responded to the crash at Linton Boulevard, near Legends Way around 10:20 pm. The motorcyclist is identified as Thelison Cristiano Oliveira. Police say that Oliveira was driving a 2011 Harley Davidson Sportster Iron 883 when he was sideswiped by a 2016 Jeep Cherokee near the intersection. Oliveira's motorcycle was overturned and he slid through the intersection before eventually colliding with a 2016 F150. Oliveira was pinned underneath the truck until emergency responders arrived.
Oliveira was pronounced dead at the scene after attempts to provide medical aid. There is no word on whether any other injuries were sustained as a result of this crash and no one else involved has been identified by police.
Over 5,000 people were killed in motorcycle accidents in 2015. This is a large number considering that only 3% of registered vehicles are motorcycles. The rate of severe and deadly accidents among motorcycles is much higher than accidents involving passenger and other types of vehicles. While motorcycle riding is a fun hobby for many, it can turn deadly on a moment's notice when something goes wrong.
