In Tampa, a couple was wanted in a hit-and-run accident that led to a death. Tampa Police detectives were looking for Tracy Evereth Wood and Miriam Marti-Benning, who were finally located today in a wooded area along Interstate 75 and Wesley Chapel Boulevard, Pasco County.
It is believed that Wood was driving the vehicle at the time when they hit 81-year-old Felix De la Uz on March 17. Witnesses who saw the accident said that the vehicle left the road and hit a sign and electrical box when the 81-year-old was waiting to cross the road with his wife. De la Uz was seen pushing his wife out of the way before he was struck. The drivers then stopped the vehicle and the driver and passenger got out and left the scene.
They called friends to drive them out of the area and acquired money to stay in a hotel. When they ended up in Pasco County, they decided to sleep in the woods.
Wood was charged with hit-and-run, failure to remain at the crash scene, and more. Marti-Benning also received many charges, including hit-and-run and aiding and abetting the commission of a felony.
