73-year-old Donna Newman was riding a scooter in Groveland yesterday when she was suddenly struck and killed by a man in a pickup truck. She was riding the 2005 Honda scooter in the morning when she was struck by 43-year-old David Currie.
The accident happened when Currie drove onto the shoulder and started making a U-turn. His pickup truck traveled into the path of the scooter. The scooter hit the left side of the truck and Newman was killed at the scene.
Currie had minor injuries and was taken to South Lake Hospital. The crash is still being investigated.
