Eglin AFB, FL (August 30, 2018) - A crash involving a semi truck sent two people to the hospital on Wednesday near Eglin Air Force Base. According to reports, a semi-truck driven by 27 year old Alonzo Martin was traveling north on State Road 85 around 1:00 pm. Martin approached a curve and attempted to navigate the curve too quickly.
Martin lost control of his truck, which overturned onto its side and hit a concrete wall. The truck came to rest on the edge of an overpass and was partially hanging over the roadway below. Both Martin and a passenger, 39 year old Adrid Johnson, suffered injuries in the crash. They were taken to Walton Beach Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Martin received a citation for exceeding a safe speed.
Fortunately, this crash did not turn out as poorly as it could have for the driver and passenger. Semi-truck accidents often feature deadly and catastrophic injuries to those involved. A semi-truck crash is typically more serious in nature due to the size and sheer weight of the truck.
In this case, it certainly appears as though the driver, Alonzo Martin, was negligent in causing the crash. Martin's passenger has the right to recover for personal injuries sustained due to Martin's negligence. In Florida, an accident victim can seek recovery from a negligent driver for injuries sustained at the hands of the driver.
