Escambia County, FL (August 21, 2018) - A woman was injured in a crash Monday afternoon on Highway 97.
The woman, whose name has not been released, was traveling on Highway 97, over Sandy Hollow Creek, around 4:00 pm Monday. Suddenly, and for unknown reasons, her vehicle hit a crash cushion just over the fog line of the highway. The crash cushion is a device designed to absorb the impact of car accidents and prevent cars from crashing into concrete walls at construction sites.
The crash cushion successfully prevented the vehicle from traveling into the barrier. The woman, however, did sustain injuries in the crash. She was transported by EMS to a local hospital for further evaluation. There is no word on the extent or severity of injuries at this time.
Escambia County EMS along with fire and police officials all responded to the accident. The crash, which occurred on a detour bridge, remains under investigation.
Our thoughts are with the victim in this accident. We hope that she is able to quickly heal from her injuries and have a full and complete recovery.
Car accidents, unfortunately, are very common in Florida. Statstics tell us that a reportable crash occurs every 92 seconds in our state. Crashes in construction and work zones require a close examination of the crash scene to determine fault and, ultimately, liability. Pending the completion of the police investigation, it would be premature to speculate as to why or how this crash occurred.
