Flagler County, FL (May 3, 2019) - A 34-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash along I-95 on Wednesday, May 1st.
The Florida Highway Patrol reports that Daniel Castilloveiti was riding a 2015 Suzuki motorcycle southbound, near mile marker 287. As Castilloveiti traveled along the roadway, he approached a 1972 Volkswagen bus that was also traveling southbound. Castilloveiti then collided with the rear of the bus. Troopers at the scene noted skid marks and gouge marks in the pavement near the crash site.
Castilloveiti was wearing a helmet but still suffered head trauma. He was taken to Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach, where he was later pronounced dead. The bus driver was not injured in the collision. Police are still looking into the crash.
Our condolences go to the family of Daniel Castilloveiti for their loss in this tragic crash. Motorcycle accidents happen quite frequently and tend to be severe. Although only 3% of all registered motor vehicles are motorcycles, an astounding 14% of all traffic-related fatalities involve motorcycles. While a motorcycle can bring fun and enjoyment for many, the dangers of riding cannot be underscored enough.
Drivers on the roadway have an obligation to maintain a lookout for other vehicles, including motorcycles, at all times. Failure to maintain a proper lookout that results in a collision is a form of negligence that leads to liability.
