Fort Lauderdale, FL (June 24, 2018) – One woman was killed in a fatal I-95 accident in Fort Lauderdale early Saturday morning. She was tending to her disabled vehicle alongside the highway when a vehicle struck her, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash took place around 4 a.m. The pedestrian pulled her Toyota Corolla onto the shoulder of the highway because of a faulty back tire. She exited the vehicle and was standing in the roadway when the driver of a Mercedes crashed into her as they were passing by.
The driver that struck her remained at the scene. Police have determined that alcohol and drugs played no role in the incident.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident. The Florida Highway Patrol shut down several lanes of traffic as they continued their investigation. Around 9 a.m., another accident took place and traffic had to be diverted yet again.
Troopers allowed traffic to come off of the highway to the Dania Beach Boulevard exit in an effort to ease congestion.
