Fort Myers, FL (September 26, 2018) - A crash in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 caused road closure and injuries on Tuesday, September 25th.
The accident occurred around 3:35 am near mile marker 147 on Interstate 75. According to Florida Highway Patrol, a car was traveling southbound when it collided with the rear end of a tanker truck. The car then spun out of control and collided with an oncoming tractor trailer. This caused the tractor-trailer to collide with a pickup truck in a chain reaction style collision.
Traffic was re-routed from the crash site for several hours while authorities worked to clear the scene and investigate the accident.
The tractor-trailer driver and a passenger in the pickup sustained injuries in the accident. Both were transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
A reportable accident takes place approximately every 92 seconds in Florida. In accidents involving multiple vehicles, a close examination of the crash scene must be undertaken by police in an effort to determine which driver was at fault. Questions of fault can be complicated when several vehicles are involved in a crash such as this one in Fort Myers.
