Geneseo, FL (August 7, 2018) – A Florida truck driver lost his life in a fiery head-on collision in Geneseo near the exit on Interstate 80. The Saturday crash took place at 7:08 pm and involved two semi-truck trailers. One of the trucks was serving as a car carrier at the time
Geneseo residents who witnessed the scene said that they heard banging sounds followed by a plume of black smoke. Many thought that a local gas station had an explosion.
State officials arrived at the scene and found that 54-year-old Barry Barlow had been driving a Freightliner box trailer truck traveling westbound on the roadway. He left the road and moved through the center median, striking a Peterbilt semi head-on.
Upon impact, both semi-trucks caught on fire. Police say that Barlow died at the scene of the accident. The driver of the second truck, 44-year-old Cheyenne Burgos, was transported to the hospital.
The accident took several hours to clean up, and traffic was diverted away from the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
