Gilchrist County, FL (November 9, 2018) - Several teenagers suffered injuries after a head-on collision in Gilchrist County. The crash happened on Saturday, November 3rd, just before 8:30 pm.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, a GMC Sierra and a Dodge Ram were traveling on a dirt road at NW 22nd Court. As the vehicles crested a hill, they collided with one another head-on. Two 17 year old girls in the Sierra were transported to UF Heath in critical condition. A 17 year old in the Ram was seriously hurt while two other 17 year olds were treated for minor injuries. Three other teenagers involved were not hurt.
The Sierra driver, 18 year old Dakota Simpson, was charged with failure to use due care for his role inthe crash. All of those involved were wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
Over 250,000 injury accidents are reported each year in our state. Our thoughts are with all of the injured teenagers and their families time. The days and weeks following a serious car accident can be traumatic as the victim, along with friends and family members try to adjust to an unfamiliar situation. Lives can be put on hold indefinitely during the long recovery process from a serious accident.
It appears as though Dakota Simpson will be held responsible for this crash. If Simpson was in fact negligent in causing the accident, then he will be responsible for reimbursing the other injured victim's medical bills as well as compensation for pain and suffering.
