Hardee County, FL (September 11, 2018) - A pregnant woman and her two children were hit by a car while walking early Monday morning. The collision happened near Falcon Road and Old Bradenton Road around 6:45 am. The driver of the vehicle, 57 year old Jose Montes-Loredo left the roadway and traveled onto the shoulder, striking the woman and children, ages 6 and 8.
The woman, who was eight months pregnant, lost her unborn child in the crash. She and the 6 year old are in critical condition at Tampa General Hospital. There is no word on the condition of the 8 year old child.
Florida Highway Patrol cited Montes-Loredo for several traffic infractions, including reckless driving involving death and driving without a license involving death.
This story is a very tragic reminder of the sudden impacts that a car accident can have. Our thoughts and condolences are with the family as they go through this tragedy and we hope that the mother and 6 year old will have a full recovery from their injuries.
Pedestrian accidents will oftentimes involve serious injury and death. When a pedestrian is struck, it is typically because a driver never saw them or did not take an evasive action to maneuver their vehicle around the pedestrian. This usually means full-speed crashes with catastrophic results. In this incident, police have determined that the driver negligently left the roadway before hitting the woman and her children. The reason for the vehicle leaving the roadway is not given but, legally speaking, the driver will be responsible for the serious injuries and death caused by his recklessness.
