Hillsborough County, FL (June 19, 2018) – In a Hillsborough County accident that took place yesterday, one man lost his life. A Brandon man was killed in a traffic crash on Lumsden Road, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver who lost his life was identified as 68-year-old David Counts. The other driver involved in the crash, 31-year-old Lucaya Barlow, suffered minor injuries and was taken for medical treatment by her husband. Officers said that Counts was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident took place around 1:06 p.m. at the intersection of Lumsden Road and Heather Lakes Boulevard. At the time, Counts was driving his Dodge Caravan west on Lumsden Road, when he attempted to make a left turn so that he could go south on Heather Lakes Boulevard. At that time, he entered into the path of a 2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser that Barlow was driving.
Barlow attempted to brake the vehicle to avoid the crash but was not able to do so. The PT Cruiser ran into the side of the van, causing it to overturn onto its roof. Counts was not wearing a seatbelt at the time and passed away due to his injuries.
On Florida roads, somebody will lose their life almost every 3 hours. Another 30 people are injured every hour on accidents that take place on our roadways.
