Hillsborough County, FL (September 15, 2018) - A motorcycle crash in Tampa left one person dead on Friday September 14th. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Alexis Candelario Pacheco was killed in the crash which happened on Hillsborough Avenue.
Pacheco was driving a 2006 Suzuki GSX R westbound on Hillsborough near the intersection with Countryway Boulevard around 9:56 am. At the intersection, a 2010 Toyota Sienna driven by 50 year old Jason M. Rodgers-Price attempted to make a left turn. The Sienna turned into the path of Suzuki causing the motorcycle to crash into the right side of Sienna.
Pacheco was critically hurt in the accident and died at the scene. Rodgers-Price did not suffer any injuries in the accident.
The road remained closed for several hours following the accident. There is no word on whether charges will be issued at this time.
Motorcycle crashes are often severe and catastrophic in nature. Thousands of motorcycle riders die each year in crashes with vehicles. In cases where the motorcyclist is not at fault, the law allows recovery for personal injuries sustained in the crash.
In this case, it appears as though the Sienna driver failed to properly yield the right of way to Alexis Pacheco. Failing to yield to motorcycles is a frequent cause of many deadly crashes and is a form of negligence recognized under Florida law.
