Hillsborough County, FL (October 2, 2018) - A fiery crash on I-75 near Fowler Avenue has left at least one person dead. The crash occurred around 4:08 pm on Tuesday, October 2nd.
According to authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol, the semi-truck was carrying a load of tomatoes across I-75 near Fowler Avenue. The truck crashed into an SUV causing it to run off the overpass and onto Fowler Avenue below. The truck landed on top of a car traveling on Fowler. The driver of that vehicle was pronounced dead. Five others suffered injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment. In total, four other vehicles were involved in this crash.
The deceased victim has not been identified at this time. No additional information is available.
A reportable crash occurs approximately every 92 seconds in Florida. In this truck accident, it appears as though an initial collision caused the truck to leave the roadway and fall onto the street below. When a driver leaves their lane of travel and strikes another vehicle, the driver is, in most cases, going to be held responsible for any injuries caused by the crash. In this accident, however, it is unclear whether the truck driver was responsible for the initial collision with the SUV.
