According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Benito Chavez Rojas was a passenger in Dodge Minivan traveling northbound on SR 29. Rojas was killed as a result of the crash and three other passengers inside the van were taken to Lee Memorial Hospital in serious condition.
Police believe that alcohol may have played a role in the crash. They are continuing to investigate.
Ove 400,000 crashes are reported in Florida each year. Multi-vehicle accidents, such as this one, frequently occur on highways.
