Immokalee, FL (August 1, 2018) – The Florida Highway Patrol was called to investigate a fatal car crash that took place in Immokalee. The accident took place on SR-29, one mile south of Farm Worker Way.
76-year-old Coyest Clark Simmons was unable to maintain control of her vehicle, a 2004 Saturn Vue, causing it to veer from the roadway. The car crashed through a guardrail around 10:03 this morning and proceeded down into the canal.
Simmons and a 76-year-old unidentified female passenger were both taken to the hospital and were pronounced dead. Police said it was unclear if either were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The road was shut down for investigation but has since reopened.
