Indian River County, FL ( October 17, 2018) - A motorcyclist died after a crash on Indian River Boulevard on Tuesday, October 17th.
57-year-old Jeffery Crawford was riding on Indian River when a car pulled out into his path. The car struck his motorcycle, a 2015 Harley Davidson, resulting in Crawford being ejected from the bike. The crash took place around 3:00 pm, with the Florida Highway Patrol investigating. Crawford was rushed to Indian River Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the other vehicle was identified as 19-year-old Destiny Stevens of Port St. Lucie. It was later determined that Crawford had the right of way when he was struck. There is no word on what if any charges Stevens is facing at this time for her role in the crash.
We are saddened to hear of this fatal motorcycle crash and our condolences go out to the family of Jeffery Crawford.
Motorcycle crashes are some of the most deadly accidents that we encounter in our practice. In 2015, there were over 600 reported motorcycle fatalities in the State of Florida. A close examination of the accident scene is required in order to determine who is at fault in a Florida motorcycle accident case. If a motorcyclist is hurt through no fault of their own, they possess the right to bring a claim against the other driver for injuries sustained in the motorcycle crash. In cases of deadly accidents, the next of kin may have the right to bring a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver.
