Kenansville, FL (September 12, 2018) - Authorities have identified a victim in the fatal Florida Turnpike crash. The accident occurred on Tuesday, September 12th in Osceola County.
The Florida Highway Patrol reports that a four door Mitsubishi driven by Lori McMillian sustained a flat tire. As a result, the Mitsubishi was traveling on the highway at approximately 5 mph. A Ford Explorer, driven by 30 year old Sergio Caceres Baca was traveling behind the Mitsubishi, also at a slow rate of speed. The Explorer then crashed into the Mitsubishi in a chain reaction accident.
Sergio Baca was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the collision. The FedEx driver and Mitsubishi drivers suffered minor injuries. Both the Mitsubishi and Explorer had activated their emergency flashing lights prior to the accident. Two other individuals in the Explorer were also killed in the crash. They have not been identified at this time.
We are saddened to hear of this terrible, tragic crash on the Florida Turnpike. Multi-vehicle highway collisions can produce some of the most devastating results of any type of car accident that we see. In this crash, it appears as though the FedEx truck driver could have avoided the accident by slowing down. Many serious and fatal accidents are caused by rear-end type collisions that occur at high speeds.
