Kissimmee, FL (April 4, 2019) - The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating after a 73-year-old pedestrian was killed in a crash on Pleasant Hill Road. The collision happened on Thursday, April 4th, just before 7:00 a.m.
Investigators say that the pedestrian was walking along Pleasant Hills Road when he was struck by a pickup truck driven by Joseph Nunn, of Palm Bay. Nunn, who was driving a 2006 Dodge southbound, hit the pedestrian as he walked into the roadway. The pedestrian suffered critical injuries and died at the scene of the crash. Nunn did not sustain any injuries and remained at the scene to cooperate with police.
The crash remains under investigation and there have been no charges filed at this time.
We would like to extend our condolences to the family of the victim in this fatal pedestrian crash. Each day, two pedestrians on average will lose their lives in crashes across our state. The numbers behind pedestrian crashes show that a pedestrian accident is highly likely to result in serious injury and even death. About three-quarters of all pedestrian crashes will result in a trip to the ER for the victim. About one-quarter of those will require extended hospitalization for serious injuries.
If you have been injured in a pedestrian that you do not believe was your fault, it is important to contact an experienced attorney to protect your legal rights. In our state, pedestrians who are hurt by the negligence of a driver may have the right to file a personal injury claim to receive compensation. These cases can be complicated, however, and should only be handled by an experienced attorney.
