Lady Lake, FL (July 5, 2018) – A Lake County sheriff’s deputy was injured with a serious head injury after he was struck on early Wednesday. The incident took place when the deputy was trying to protect a man that he was investigating at the time.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has recently stated that 27-year-old Austin Pringle was left in stable condition at Orlando Regional Medical Center with a serious head injury after he was struck by a driver.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Pringle was on his way home before daybreak and he heard a call on the radio that there was an attempted car burglary. Multiple culprits tried to break into the vehicle before they ran off. Pringle drove along Airport Road and saw a man who was walking alone, so he pulled over to investigate him. However, when he was engaging in a conversation, he was suddenly struck by a passing vehicle.
The woman who struck the deputy claimed that she saw the headlights of the vehicle and slowed down, not knowing that it was a patrol vehicle. Pringle was then taken to the medical center with a serious head injury. He had to be airlifted.
The other victim who was being investigated at the time, identified as a 22-year-old Leesburg man, only suffered a leg injury and was also transported to the hospital.
Pringle is expected to recover and was kept overnight as a precaution so that he could be observed. According to the man who was being questioned, Pringle attempted to push the man out of the way so that he would not be struck.
The woman in the vehicle did not receive any injuries in the accident.
