Lakeland, FL (June 16, 2020) - A 6-year-old boy died in a two-car crash in Lakeland on Tuesday. The crash was reported just before 7:00 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 98 and Wallace Road.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office arrived on scene just after the accident took place. Deputies say that 38-year-old Jose Vazquez Clemente was traveling northbound on US 98 in a 2018 Toyota Corolla when he drifted across the center line and struck a 2019 Ford Ranger. The 6-year-old was a passenger in the Ford and was ejected after the truck went off the roadway and onto the shoulder. There were no other serious injuries reported in the crash. The northbound lanes of U.S. 98 were closed for several hours while police investigated.
An investigation is ongoing and charges are pending against Clemente.
