Lakes Regional Park, FL (June 23, 2018) – At Lakes Regional Park, a 41-year-old man lost his life on Thursday morning in a deadly construction accident. The South Trail Fire and Rescue District responded to the scene.
The man was identified as Manreh Gene Crenshaw, who was killed after suffering severe injuries from being pinned between a machine and an overhead railing at the construction site. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office pronounced him dead on the scene.
Deputies were originally called to the scene around 8:52 a.m. The man was operating a machine at the entrance of the park. The arch at the entrance was being painted by an employee who was working contract. The circumstances leading up to the death are still a bit hazy, so the investigation into the incident continues.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration also responded to the scene to help continue the investigation.
Every year, workers will lose their lives and suffer serious injuries in the face of serious construction accidents. In 2016, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 309 fatal accidents took place in Florida – many of which could have been prevented.
