Lehigh Acres, FL (August 23, 2018) - A school bus crashed into a car in Lehigh Acres on Wednesday. The crash took place on Lee Boulevard and Leonard Boulevard.
The school bus, which was occupied at the time, was traveling on Lee Boulevard when it crashed into a silver Sedan. The force of the collision pushed the Sedan into another school bus, resulting in the Sedan being sandwiched between the two buses.
The Sedan was crushed in the accident, but fortunately, the driver sustained only minor injuries. Several children on the first school bus suffered unspecified injuries. They were each taken by their parents for a medical evaluation following the crash. There is no word on the extent of any injuries. The school buses were coming from Dunbar High School at the time of the crash.
There is no additional information available.
In Florida, approximately 30 people are injured per hour in crashes on our streets and highway. School bus drivers have a great responsibility of ensuring the safety and security of children. Each day, they are tasked with making sure each child gets to and from school. Unfortunately, crashes involving school buses do occur. In many cases, the negligence of the bus driver is the cause of the crash. School bus drivers can become distracted by occupants of the bus or may fail to slow down in time to avoid a crash.
Fortunately, it does not appear as though anyone suffered serious injuries in this crash.
