Marathon, FL (November 1, 2018) - A man is in critical condition after a vehicle in which he was a passenger rear-ended another vehicle. The crash took place on Wednesday, October 31st in the Florida Keys.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, Dmitri Golubiuk was a passenger in a 2016 Ford Mustang driven by 27-year-old Evgenii Kuzlov. Kuzlov was traveling north on US 1 when he collided a 2014 Chevrolet Express that had slowed down in front of him. The crash occurred at mile marker 40. According to FHP troopers, Kulzov's inattention caused the crash to occur.
Golubiuk was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital where he was listed in critical condition with life-threatening injuries to his head and leg. The driver of the Chevrolet and a passenger were not injured in the accident. Golubiuk was visiting the area from Russia.
US 1 was closed for approximately two hours as police investigated the crash and cleared away the wreckage at the scene.
A reportable accident occurs approximately every 92 seconds in Florida. Rear-end collisions are among the most common types of car accidents experienced by drivers and passengers in our state.
Many people consider rear-end collisions to be minor in nature. The fact is, however, that rear-end collisions can and do lead to serious and debilitating injuries which require extensive medical treatment. The driver causing a rear-end crash is almost always legally responsible for the injuries suffered by other drivers. Rear-end crashes are usually caused by some form of driver inattention such as the crash in this case.
