Margaret McDowell was initially charged with manslaughter in an accident that caused a five-car collision while she was driving under the influence. She was initially charged with manslaughter a year ago but entered a blind plea to a third-degree assault charge. The five-car collision took the life of one motorist.
At the time of the accident, McDowell was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when her Ford Explorer rear-ended a vehicle driven by 71-year-old Jian Chen. This caused a chain reaction that took out other vehicles along the way. Chen was airlifted to the hospital for injuries in the accident but died in January.
Chen’s son and his family believe that Miller should have suffered harsher penalties for taking a life. Margaret McDowell, 40, is an attorney.
