Martin County, FL (May 20, 2019) - A head-on crash left one person dead and several others injured on Sunday, May 19th. The accident happened around 5:40 a.m. on Citrus Boulevard, near Pineapple Court.
Authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol say that a Mercedes-Benz and a van collided with one another. The Mercedes was traveling in the westbound when it veered out of control and went into the eastbound lanes, where it crashed with the van head-on. The driver of the van was killed in the accident, while three passengers were taken to a local hospital in serious condition. The Mercedes driver was also seriously hurt. There is no word on the identity of the victims.
Police are still investigating and it is unclear at this time whether alcohol played a role in the crash.
A fatal accident will be reported, on average, every three hours in Florida. Head-on crashes are a major cause of many serious and fatal crashes. A head-on collision typically happens at high speed and gives the other driver little time to avoid the accident, thus causing more damage and, unfortunately, more frequent loss of life.
