Miami, FL (September 17, 2018) - A hit-and-run in Miami left a man with serious injuries on Saturday, September 15th. Michael Davila was riding his motorcycle around midnight near the intersection of Northwest 79th Street and Northwest 17th Avenue. At that time, a car collided with Davila and he was ejected from his motorcycle and thrown to the ground.
Rather than stop at the scene, however, the car continued traveling on and left before police and rescue workers could arrive. Davila is at Jackson Memorial Hospital with serious injuries and is currently in a coma. In addition, he suffered two broken shoulders and damage to his liver and spine.
Police have provided no details on the crash, including how it occurred. There is no description of a suspect vehicle at this time.
This hit-and-run crash shows just how sudden and tragic a vehicle accident can be. Our thoughts are with Michael Davila and his loved ones as he attempts to recover from the very serious injuries he sustained in this crash.
In Florida, as in every other state, it is illegal to leave the scene of a reportable car accident. When injury is involved, the offending person faces felony charges along with a potential prison sentence for hit-and-run. The responsible driver may also face civil liability. If the driver was negligent in causing the crash before fleeing the scene, those injured may bring a personal injury claim to recover for their damages sustained in the crash.
In any hit-and-run crash, finding compensation can be difficult. If the hit-and-run driver is never located, the injured victim must find other ways to make sure that they receive justice for their injuries.
