Miami, FL (February 16, 2019) - A wrong-way crash on Interstate 75 has claimed the lives of two people, including an off-duty police officer. The crash took place on Saturday, February 15th, near the exit for US 27.
Police are still investigating the crash but initial reports indicate that 32-year-old Curtis Woolwine was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-75. Woolwine was operating a black Chevy Sonic. While driving the wrong way, Woolwine collided with a 2018 black Dodge Charger being driven by 40-year-old Steven Greco. Greco was returning home following his shift as a Miccosukee police officer.
Both Woolwine and Greco were pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the accident. The cause of the crash is under investigation but authorities are looking into whether Woolwine was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. No further information is available at this time.
Losing a loved one to a traffic accident is devastating. Each day in Florida, about eight fatal crashes are reported. In many fatal accidents an innocent victim will lose their lives due to the negligence of another motorist. In these cases, the deceased's next-of-kin will have a legal right to pursue a wrongful death claim against the driver responsible for the fatal crash.
