Milton, FL (October 24, 2018) - A woman from Biloxi, Mississippi died in a crash in Milton on Tuesday, October 23rd.
Florida Highway Patrol responded to the crash scene on Interstate 10, near Avalon Boulevard. After an investigation, Troopers learned that 47-year-old David Owen, Jr. was driving a 2008 Ford F-150 when he came up to a curve. Owen failed to negotiate the curve and ran off the road before overturning. There were three passengers in Owen's truck at the time of the accident, 36-year-old Shannon Rings, 46-year-old Edward Gamard and 48-year-old Jane Gamard.
Rings was critically hurt and was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital where she later died. Edward and Jane Gamard suffered minor injuries. Owen was determined to be impaired and was charged with DUI manslaughter.
Our condolences go out to the family of Shannon Rings. DUI crashes continue to be a major epidemic across our state. Deciding to drive under the influence is one of the worst decisions that a person can make. Impaired drivers have slower reaction times and place themselves and others in extreme danger each time they get behind the wheel. This accident is a sad reminder of that fact.
