The Florida Highway Patrol says that Jonas Wallis, 58, was traveling north on US 1 when he struck a car in front of him that was slowed for traffic. This began a chain reaction crash involving three other vehicles. Two of the drivers of the occupants of the other vehicles were seriously injured. Franco Aracelia, 45, was transported to Mariners Hospital with serious injuries. Troy Scott, a passenger in one of the cars, was airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center. His condition is unknown.
Wallis was issued a citation for careless driving.
A car accident occurs without a moment's notice. When heavy traffic piles up on a street or highway, rear-end collisions frequently occur. Drivers who are distracted and not paying attention to the road conditions in front of them will often cause a head-on collision like the one we see here. When such collisions happen at high speed, the results can be very devastating.
