Monteverde, FL (April 29, 2019) - A motorcyclist died in a crash that took place on Sunday, April 29th, on County Road 455.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Richard Powell was traveling northbound on CR 455 when he left the roadway. Powell overcorrected his vehicle and slammed head-on into a motorcycle driven by 75-year-old Thomas Valley, of Ormond Beach. Valley was thrown from the bike and landed in the roadway. Officials pronounced him dead at the scene.
The crash is still under investigation. Troopers say that charges are pending against Powell at this time.
A serious motorcycle accident can occur at any time. No one expects that they will be involved in a serious crash when they get on the road. The reality though is that there are approximately 250,000 injury accidents reported each year in Florida and many of these accidents will, unfortunately, involve serious injury. Approximately 14% of all traffic deaths involve motorcycles.
When you are hurt in an accident that was not your fault, you have legal rights. The other driver, as well as your own insurance company, may be responsible for payment of your medical bills and other damages related to the accident. In these situations, you should speak with an experienced Florida personal injury attorney.
