New Port Richey, FL (August 31, 2018) - A 10 year old boy was sent on Friday after being struck by two separate vehicles. The boy was running southbound on Madison Street. At the same time, 18 year old Austin Rumberger was traveling on Madison, near the intersection with 12th Avenue. Rumberger's vehicle slowed down as a result of traffic conditions ahead. 41 year old Christopher Bert was also traveling towards the same intersection
The boy ran into the street where he was first struck by Rumberger. After the initial collision, the boy was lying in the roadway when he was run over by Bert's vehicle. Police and EMS arrived on scene. The injured boy was airlifted to a hospital where is currently in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Both Bert and Rumberger remained on scene. There is no word whether either driver will face charges in the crash.
Our thoughts are with the injured 10 year old in this tragic accident.
There are not enough facts at this time to determine who is responsible for the crash. Further police investigation will help reveal whether either driver or both drivers will be held responsible or whether they were negligent in causing the crash. Many factors will come into play with this accident, including whether either driver had adequate time and warning to avoid the boy as he ran into the roadway.
