New Port Richey, FL (March 25, 2019) - A 40-year-old man and a 14-year-old girl died in a motorcycle crash in along State Road 24 on Sunday, March 24th. The crash took place near Cove Street around 4:30 p.m.
According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, David Anthony Lewis and Suzanne Lewis were riding a motorcycle in the southbound lanes of SR 24. A Ford F-150 truck, driven by 29-year-old Savannah Leigh Wilson, was traveling northbound on the same road. When Wilson came upon the motorcycle, her truck crossed the center line and collided with the bike head-on. David and Suzanne Lewis were tragically killed at the scene of the crash.
Following an investigation, it was determined that Wilson was impaired at the time of the crash. She was charged with two counts of DUI manslaughter, as well as driving with a suspended license. She was arrested and placed in the Levy County Jail.
In 2016, there were over 5,000 confirmed DUI-related fatal crashes. In addition, there were many more DUI crashes that were not fatal but involved injuries to one or more people. Whether it is related to drugs or whether it is related to alcohol, DUI crashes and DUI drivers continue to plague the streets and highways of Florida.
A DUI crash unfortunately often has serious consequences. An impaired driver has a slowed reaction time and therefore many crashes with impaired drivers occur at high speeds, causing devastating damage and injuries. These crashes have the potential to change the lives of innocent victims forever.
