North Port, FL (April 6, 2019) - A 17-year-old girl is dead and three others were hurt following a DUI crash on Saturday, April 5th. Around 2:30 a.m., police responded to Joewood Circle and Genip Court in reference to a rollover crash involving a Toyota SUV.
When officers arrived, they learned that 19-year-old Stephanie Evrard was driving the SUV with 13 passengers. Most of the passengers were inside but some were also on the outside of the vehicle and believed to be on the roof. Evrard lost control of the Toyota, causing the car to roll. Police say that three people suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital, while one person died from injuries suffered in the crash. None of the victims have been identified at this time.
Following an investigation, Evrard was arrested and taken to the Sarasota County Jail after it was determined that she was under the influence at the time of the crash.
We offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim and those injured by this terrible crash in North Port. Driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol is a very irresponsible action and can certainly have very tragic and extreme consequences. Those who choose to drive while impaired place both themselves and all others on the roadway at risk of serious accidents.
