Northwest Miami-Dade, FL (December 24, 2018) - A car slammed into a restaurant in Northwest Miami-Dade, leaving two injured on Saturday, December 22nd. The incident happened at the La Nueva Alameda Cafeteria at the intersection of Northwest 24th Street and 27th Avenue.
Police say that the driver was outside the restaurant when he mistakenly hit the gas instead of the brake pedal, causing his vehicle to crash through a front window of the crowded cafeteria. The impact shattered glass, destroyed equipment and left a massive amount of debris on the ground inside the restaurant. One restaurant customer was hurt in the incident and was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital in unknown condition. The driver was also hurt and was taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.
The owner of the restaurant says it will take a while to recover and it is unclear when the business will be able to reopen.
Our thoughts go out to those affected by this serious crash, including the injured victims as well as the restaurant owner. While many car accidents will involve one or more vehicles colliding on the roadway, crashes can and do occur everywhere, including parking lots and businesses as we see here. Although the driver simply made a mistake, they can still be held liable for their negligence which caused injuries to at least one innocent bystander.
